Built during the Cold War, in the late 1980’s, this was one of three bomb-proof control centres constructed by Southern Water, although the only one in Kent. Should World War 3 have happened, the water for the South-East could have been controlled from here, although once construction was completed this bunker was never actually kitted out.
The entrance of the bunker takes you down a flight of stairs where you enter through the first bomb-proof door into the decontamination room. Walking through there were toilets, a kitchen, dormitory, store room and the main control room at the end, which also has an emergency exit shaft.
The bunker has been abandoned for a number years and had power on until recently. It’s also reportedly been used for growing cannabis.
