Welcome to Beyond the Point

Beyond the Point is an award-winning historical organisation dedicated to preserving and documenting overlooked and vanishing structural heritage across the UK. 

Established in 2011, we focus on recording a variety of forgotten historic sites including everything from old hospitals to military remains, capturing the fading remnants of history and raising awareness among local communities about their unique pasts. Our approach is direct and immersive—Joe and Liam venture to historic sites to film and photograph the remains prior to publishing articles on our website. In addition, we also visit museums and more commonly visited sites. Our work blends local and landscape history, outdoor adventure, and urban exploration, with the aim of creating a professional, archival resource that benefits both history enthusiasts and researchers alike. We are a non-profit, entirely self-funded organization.

Founded in 2011 by Canvey Island natives Joe Mander and Liam Heatherson, Beyond the Point began when we were just 14 years old, inspired by our curiosity about local history and a desire to share our discoveries. Within just two years, we earned the distinguished titles of ‘Best Online Community Website’ and ‘Best National Archive 2012’. In the years that followed, we’ve conducted numerous presentations for community groups, participated in events, and even played a role in launching the ‘Explore Your Archive’ campaign at the Houses of Parliament.

A decade later, we continue to thrive, passionately uncovering and documenting historic sites while promoting local heritage. We produce professional documentaries and engaging vlogs to connect younger audiences with their history. Recently, we’ve upgraded our camera gear and invested in a drone to further elevate our work.
